While traveling the lands of a small Kingdom on her golem horse, Kelsie Copper comes to a small quarry town and decides to stay for the night. Road-weary and covered in dust and mud, she detests the thought of sleeping another night outdoors. However, in trading a night in the wild, she gains a small room with a flea-infested, hay covered pallet to sleep on. Now putting off sleep for as long as she can, she enjoys what the Stone Picker’s Inn has to offer; plenty of questionable, imported ale, anonymity in the crowd, and the lewd entertainment on the small stage. The night wears on, and the customers thin out as the quarry workers return to their homes. It’s then Kelsie bears witness to a local man’s unexpected return after a month-long disappearance only rumors had answers for. Covered in mud and filth, stinking of foul odors, and his stomach bloated unnaturally, his friends attempt to help him. However, his painful, gruesome death before their eyes sends everyone running or cowering in fear—all, except for Kelsie Copper. With his warm corpse before her, his blood and viscera staining the floor, she puts her mind to the mystery of his death and begins her investigation. She’ll need to use her varied skills, both magical and mundane, to find who or what is responsible. |
