 | After fulfilling an assassination for the Norean Order, Joan is spending a cold night alone. Trying to resist the bottle of whiskey with a book, a client enters her office. A secretive businessman who fears both the police and the newspapers, his request is simple; find his missing fiancée. During their meeting, he struggles to answer simple questions. Joan wonders just how much of the little information he gives her is even true, but she’s not going to refuse the work. With little to go by, Joan begins her investigation and has to navigate a path of sadists, blackmailers, and damaged men. Brennenburg, an old city of millions, where the judges are dishonorable and the police can be bought off, criminals with connections or money can afflict vulnerable citizens as they please. It’s here Joan makes her home, living on the fringes of a corrupt society. When she isn’t on a case, she often turns to drink to cope with the trauma she’s endured. Despite living alone and keeping everyone at a distance to avoid more pain, she can’t escape the anxiety-fueled nightmares that plague her sleep. |
